Series Recap: Lady Sour Episode 1-5 (TVB, 2014)

These days, I don’t have time to follow upcoming TVB series as much as I use to, but I gave this one a try because I was looking for something lighthearted, away from the heavy, pain-inducing drama, Overachievers. The series starts of with the duo mother and daughter relationship of Gigi Wong and Myolie Wu pretends to be skincare specialists cheating people of their money while going from town to town. The two finally decides to settle down when Myolie falls in love at first sight with wealthy third-generation, Him Law. After hurdling through a few obstacles and obtaining the … Continue reading Series Recap: Lady Sour Episode 1-5 (TVB, 2014)

Series Recap: Overachievers Episode 11-25 (TVB, 2014)

I’ve been a little busy and didn’t get to post my commentary for the last 15 episodes so instead of doing it in increments of 5 episodes, I’m doing it all in one post. In the last 15 episodes, a whirlwind of events have taken place. I love dramas that has a large and grand cast, but at the same time, I feel like the story moves so fast here that it’s hard to be develop any character, let alone root for them. It is now understood that Raymond Wong will emerge as the ultimate villain for the drama. Among … Continue reading Series Recap: Overachievers Episode 11-25 (TVB, 2014)

Series Recap: Overachievers Episode 6-10 (TVB, 2014)

In week 2 of Overachievers, we can already see the drama escalating to new heights. I was surprised to see there was a one year skip. During that year, Wayne left Hong Kong after his company failed and went bankrupt, Raymond Wong betrayed his best friend for money by selling Wayne out to his over-ambitious father, Power and Wayne became good friends, Nancy let go of Raymond (with the possibility of developing a story with Power in the future perhaps), Elliot added a new mistress and baby daughter to his family, Susanna is pretending to be on good terms … Continue reading Series Recap: Overachievers Episode 6-10 (TVB, 2014)

Series Recap: Overachievers Episode 1-5 (TVB, 2014)

I must say after finishing the first five episodes of Overachievers, I’m slightly disappointed with the family-oriented nature of the story. But hey, it’s TVB so that can only be expected. I would much rather it focus on the brothers, friends, and the business itself. Having Elliot and Susanna in the picture screams a patriarchal family and drama in one form or another. On the positive end of the spectrum, we can sense that TVB doesn’t spend much time hitting around the bush, but just dive right into the drama. We are use to seeing Wayne as the good-natured, righteous, … Continue reading Series Recap: Overachievers Episode 1-5 (TVB, 2014)
